The principle of the CHIVA procedure is that varicose veins regress when the incorrect blood flow is eliminated.
This goal is achieved by cutting the varicose veins at precisely defined points according to certain principles. The blood can then no longer enter the varicose veins backwards, i.e. the incorrect blood flow is reversed and normalized. The congestion is eliminated and diseased parts of the vein can regress.
The blood does not have to find new paths after the procedure, only the pathological backflow is eliminated. The veins need 2-6 weeks to regress. It can take this time for the cosmetic result to appear. Sclerotherapy, shrinkage or surgical removal of the diseased veins does not take place.
CHIVA is an abbreviation that translates from French as "outpatient, vein-preserving, blood flow-correcting treatment of varicose veins". A special ultrasound examination with duplex sonography, a minor procedure under local anesthetic and follow-up treatment with a compression stocking are prerequisites for success. A follow-up check is then recommended to decide whether the treatment can be successfully completed or whether a minor additional procedure may be necessary.
The CHIVA method is ideal for eliminating pain caused by varicose veins through a minor procedure, but unfortunately it does not achieve an optimal aesthetic result. It is also essential to wear a compression stocking for 4-6 weeks after the procedure.
We understand that an aesthetic treatment needs to be carefully considered. We are therefore happy to take the time to answer all your questions during a no-obligation initial consultation. Arrange your consultation appointment at one of our VENENCLINICs today.
